Digital SLRs

So tough to decide between the Canon Rebel Xti, EOS-30d, or Nikon d80. I prefer compact flash over SD or whatever the nikon as and the xti size is rather small compared to the 30d, but the 30d is only 8.2 megapixels (but perhaps better in terms of optics). So tough to decide who gets my 1200 bucks!

Need a motorcycle too.

It has rained, but not yet poured.

So it seems that the rainy season is upon the west coast again, namely the mostly sunny area known as Southern California. Some hate it, some love it, some don't know what the hell is going on. I enjoy the rain, I used to enjoy running around in it until I started to get sick and realized, its time to stop doing that. Everytime it rains though I always remember a crazy dream I had that involves a big flood. Most dreams for me just sort of start at some point and I'm suddenly part of something I wasn't before, with knowledge up to that point and a big question in my mind about what the hell happened. They also have the tendency to move from one scenario to another fluidly as if i had been dreaming two dreams and one ended and another started, it hard to describe and some hollywood directors might be a bit confused, but in any event. I 'awoke' in this dream sitting on a bunch of steps. I look behind me and I see a vast ocean, perfectly flat and blue, with scattered clouds and blue skies, its picturesque. I look ahead of me and see another vast ocean with small islands petruding every so often, looking like the tops of mountains, which they must be. I look down at my feet and have no shoes, i'm standing in a puddle of water that drops off from the stairs into more ocean, unimaginable depths exist from the last step on. I see little tiny fish and new forms of life growing in this sea at my feet, the water is luke warm. I see little villages with tiny people on it, the size of ants, its amazing. I get to my feet though as this is a rather odd sight to behold. I look around, scan the horizon. The stairs i am on seem to be a barrier between the ocean and the sea of small islands. I imagine swimming to those islands but see sharks on both sides. I look to my left and right and this wall extends for infinity in both directions, nothing like what i am on now, just a pure wall separating the ocean and the sea. I pause for a moment and pick a route to walk. I walk for a while, seeing people on either side every so often, some dead, some my friends in boats and such, waving to me. I reach a point and stop, sit on the wall and dangle my feet above the water, i seem to be a bit higher up than i was before, sharks and fish are trying to eat my feet. i rub my head and look around again. This time behind me in the ocean is a large ship with a house of some sort on it. A trail leads up to it of large pebbles, a walkway on water. I walk towards this new thing and the trail leaves me stranded, so i keep heading towards my goal. I step onto a grassy front lawn and approach this house. its now some sort of bunker in a hill, the ocean is still behind me but the wall is gone. I pause for a moment and enter this doorway. Inside is a corridor with no light, i proceed feeling a wall that seems to twist and turn. i panic a bit but remain steady, i keep thinking there are goblins and ghouls in the darkness. Some attack me but i fight them off somehow. I keep walking and see a light, a lighted corridor. A single light hangs from a ceiling, bathing a small area in light, the tunnel seems to end. I turn around to the darkness and look back, there is suddenly a person and a door, the person looks angry. I have to kill him to survive and see whats beyond the door. I open it up and inside is the hum of a computer, a large monitor glows behind a chair. I am suddenly in an office of some sort, books litter the walls from floor to some unknown source far above. it is slightly cool. I check outside the door and see the light of the outside world, the corridors are gone and only 10 feet exist between me and the outside world. no goblins, no bugs, nothing. I turn around towards the computer and see internet articles about a great flood, the internet still works, aol instant messenger is running, i can talk with some people. I am very confused. I turn around and see another figure, completely unknown me. We talk a bit, I can't remember what was said, suddenly i am charged with a katana that goes through my gut. I must be dreaming, I draw a sword from thin air and cut him down. Blood is coming from the katana stuck in my gut, its red and warm, my body tingles a bit I fall to the ground. I blink and suddenly the sword is gone and my wound is healed. my shirt is still stained with blood, the katana lays nearby, there is nobody in the room. I pick it up and started to head for the door. I glance in a mirror that wasn't there before and notice, I am not myself. I stop and look, I am not myself. I switch to third person (this happens often for me in dreams), then back to first person. i shake my head and walk out the door and back out the tunnel, i am back on the wall suddenly, nothing is around me but ocean on both sides. What was an uneven elevation of water previously is now even, some water is now bathing my feet. I stop and look at the horizon, a sword in my hands. I look to my left and see a friend of mine sitting there, her and i talk a bit and I awake. What the heck just happened.

More Linux.

Woke up a little later than expected today, so I need to get a motorcycle helmet and gear tomorrow, but oh well I have homework to do! But I'm not doing it! instead I'm wasting time getting linux setup on my main computer. Windows just ain't cutting it, Explorer likes to close itself via AMD execution time encoding checking (see if any processes are trying to modify others when they run basically). So I installed ubuntu, ran into some ati driver issues, got it working, running great (i.e. last post) But I have two monitors! One was always duplicated, so I couldn't have that. Reinstalled Ubuntu as something didn't feel right about my past installation( perhaps messing around with the highpoint rocket 100 card, which boots with the card, but no hard drives connected, thats asking too much), so its reinstalled. Got the dual monitor thing working, now all I need to go is get XGL working (installed, but it hates 1280x1024 on two monitors so it won't run) so now i'm stuck. But I have homework I still need to do (I remember!) so I'm going to begin that.

But damn, I want dual monitors AND beryl/XGL working, then I would move in a heartbeat (get some software to play games, the latest and greatest and i'll be in heaven). Always later!

Linux

I'm messing with linux more and more. I just installed it on my desktop (without a hard drive, as that causes a crash for some reason.. too many hard drives?). And got beryl and xgl and all that working. I'm not all too happy with this new version of ubuntu, it suffers from the same issue as previous ones (that damn Rocket 100 IDE Controller card driver), but it works, so why complain? It took me a while to get the ati drivers working too, although thats an ati driver issue problem. I had to add in the restricted repositories in order to get them to work. Lots of reboots later and it works. Next step is to get it working with dual monitors. Although, I did find an interesting program I wish I had found sooner: http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ which lets two computer connect virtually in sort of a dual monitor config (one mouse and keyboard). We'll see. Adobe has also released version of flash player 9 for linux: http://blogs.adobe.com/penguin.swf/ (and some other goodies). Beryl also works well, and a lot faster than my laptop. Lots of next steps. Will keep you up to date.

If you're curious as to what beryl is, some videos:

Think Max OSX, Vista, but free and expandable (to anything you can think and program).

Wow.

I can't believe a few people actually have run into the same problem as me with illegal charges. Thankfully PayPal has been kind and has issued me chargebacks and given me a new card. But since there are so many out there from this same company, I'm surprised they haven't been shut down. Perhaps with more and more complaints that will happen. I wish you all the best if you have some fraudulent charges, and I hope someone finds and puts a stop to this. Good luck to you all (I just approved your comments, strange how they went into spam queue...).
