Grades are in!
I'm actually pretty excited. I did better than I had in any other classes previously. It really helps if you worry and work your ass off to get all the crap done. I'm actually a bit dissapointed as they could have been all A's. I got 2 A's and 3 B+'s. I just can't believe that! Bah, now I'm looking forward to kicking some ass next quarter and seeing if I can get straight A's. That is all.
Thats that!
Finals are over, finals week is over. Finally. I can relax for a week. Well I gotta work a day or two, so.. not too relaxing. And its only a week. Damn, doesn't seem all that good anymore. I kind of want to go to vegas by the end of the week, but we'll see if that happens. I think I'm supposed to file or something. Bah. Is this week over yet?
Still working. Always something to do! Such is life!
Since the media got their numbers…
We really should look at the names of people who have died in Iraq. Soldiers aren't just cattle, don't count the numbers, these are people that are being killed. I hate the media when they just report on the number and not the names. They're just looking for shock. Then on to the Entertainment report.. (Bullshit)
Who needs Vista?
I've been playing around with Gentoo and Beryl, the package management of Gentoo is amazing. I need gaim: emerge gaim gets everything. I need gimp: emerge gimp. I can configure various libraries that can be made with certain software so it does what I need to do. Throw in a nice graphics card (or a 9800 pro) and you have a perfect opportunity for a nice-looking desktop system by following directions. Installing beryl with XEffects (just follow directions). This isn't for the faint of heart however, it has taken a while to get everything setup properly, but once its set-up its solid as a rock. Check below for the window borders, blurred backgrounds (like vista!), and you see what I mean. There are tons of videos of beryl on youtube. Its simply too amazing for words. And it can only get better!
Updates
Finals are just around the corner for me. And to be honest, I am a little frightened to take them. I always do horribly on finals and I've really done the best I've can up to this point. Having it all ride on one final test is the downfall for me. I really want to study, but I have no idea what to study. Try to study something that took up 10 weeks of your life is kind of a hard thing to do. What do I know, what do I need to work on? Where to start? I haven't a clue! And I have a million other things I'd rather be doing: Go to work, get a motorcycle, get a new car, find a new webhost, finish my anime site to work on the next one, and a million other small things that I've got to do. Some times I feel really motivated to get things done. The last few times at work I basically wanted to get stuff done, so I really worked towards that goal and made a lot of headway. Working on the programming assignment for Compiler Construction was a fun thing that I enjoyed doing, and in a few days I had a working product that did almost everything perfectly well. Thats quite an accomplishment. But other days it seems I have a hard time getting started, I lack the motivation to get things done. Usually it involves studying, since I hate doing that, but my anime site has been on the backburner for two years. I'm just now trying to get my hands dirty with it. I have made a new design I have to implement, but its being a pain. Well I should get started!!
I love Pandora!
I love this service called Pandora, its basically a service in which you specify a song or an artist you really like and it finds music and creates a playlist that sounds like it that you might enjoy as well. I've been using this service off and on for a year it seems, and it always chooses songs that I really like from my limited music collection. There are no ads in between tracks, the page does change pretty interestingly though to display ad content. When a song plays you can rate if you like it, create a new playlist from that track to get more like it, skip over it, get more info on the artist, and even links you to iTunes (don't use them) and Amazon (they're a bit better). Its sometimes hit and miss, but a lot of the time with more obscure artists it is right on. I typed in Phoenix and I have gotten a few strange songs, but a lot of music that is similar and enjoyable. I really suggest it to anyone looking to try new things. I dislike California sometimes.
It seems that California has surpassed the rest of the country in gas prices as we hit the $3/gallon mark again, even surpassing Hawaii. Its kind of strange to me that our state has higher gas prices than an island, where gasoline has to be refined elsewhere and shipped, which probably isn't cheap (the boat might use it all up!). Wheras we have our own refining facilities and ship it via trucks, which is cheaper, plus we're connected to all the other states... so... why would the difference be so great? The big difference is that California has a special "blend" of fuel, to help the rest of the country with fresh air. It all blows out of here anyways with that onshore flow. In any event, we also have a special summer blend of fuel, that is even more special.. for some reason. Why the hell do we have to be special. I doubt that this gasoline burns any cleaner. Its probably some refinery in California that paid some congressmen to get this law passed with fake science. Even if it burns cleaner, attaches to smog and turns it into flowers, and washes your car, why can't they bump up the capacity of the plants! Californians drive everwhere, there are tons of people here. If one of these factories shuts down, which happens often, we're seriously fucked. Gas will go up to $6! And I'm sure the state will get a ton of extra tax revenue to spend on "road improvements" and other crap none of us ever see. Enough is enough. I'm walking.
Whats that... not enough sidewalks. I can't walk on the freeway? Wow... Can I have a lift?
SV650 soon
Well I think I found a good enough deal on a bike that I might actually go through and get one. Its a 2006 Red SV650 with less than 2k miles on it for around $5500 out the door. I just signed up for an American Express card with a $3000 limit on it, so yeah. Basically its going to be paid almost fully. I have the cash-money to purchase outright, but thats never a good idea. My money works for me in interest, plus I get cash back on Amex and my mastercard, so I can pay on my amex and mastercard, then pay off the amex with the mastercard for some more cash-money. I think so at least. I just hope nobody kills me on this thing and I never get into an accident. They sure are as fun as hell though. I need a new car, paint is rusting, one of my doors sounds loose (it always has though), and I don't think the engine is too happy with me. In a year I'll probably purchase one of those things too, but something cheap so I can buy a house in the future. Damn this shit is odd to think about, just 4 years ago I was being lazy in HS and now I'm working my ass off to get nice things. I just hope I can sell my kidney for $2,000,000 USD. I just need one!
