The fires are raging.
I really don't know how many non-Californians have heard of the fires we're having but they're still going on and now they're taking homes left and right. It all started Sunday morning with the high Santa Ana winds blowing a fire around in Malibu. But as time progressed more and more were reported including some down in San Diego. Now, however, they're really blazing in San Diego county. Many homes have been destroyed and land burned throughout Southern California. Its so bad that they've actually canceled classes at UCSD Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and my office in Rancho Bernardo is in an evacuation zone so its off limits. As soon as the winds die down later today I'm sure they'll be able to get them under control, but its really amazing to watch whats going on. You can even see it from space! Air quality is horrible, its thick and hard to breath. A day or two ago the smoke was so thick it was almost as bad as fog in terms of visibility. Ash is raining down constantly causing problems of its own. Well anyway, I really just wanted to post some pictures from NASA:
